“…Of a feather” Group Art Exhibition

  • 100 Lagoon Pond:Floating Gallery 100 Lagoon Pond Road Tisbury, MA, 02568 United States (map)

“…Of a feather” features paintings and photographs by Karsen Heagle, Sheida Soleimani, Melissa Friedling and Marion Wilson.

In this selection of paintings, drawings, photographs and film, birds are guides and intimates for these artists, or as Donna Haraway phrases,  “oddkin” – an offering of generative possibility for multispecies flourishing and our collective survival on earth.

Each of the artists engage deeply with the aviary species, and at times are in physical dialog with our non-human subjects as co-creators.  Working directly with wildlife, they variously address queer identity, extinction, reproduction, spirituality and activism. Across medium and mode, the artists and artworks in the exhibition invite curiosity, concern, and accountability for feather and flesh; and overtly or inadvertently propose a matriarchal rather than patriarchal relationship with our inter-special beings.

In addition to the exhibition, throughout the summer season, 100 Lagoon Pond will be host to a working shellfish propagation station, and an exhibition adjacent artists-in-conversation series.

The exhibition opens to the public on Friday July 7th, from 5-7pm.
